The City of San Antonio was named after St Anthony of Padua by Spanish explorers and missionaries who came to the area in 1691. Falling under the spell of the area's natural beauty, the explorers quickly established a settlement, taking advantage of the springs found in the area. Over the years the city grew and is now the second most populous city in Texas with just over 1.3 million people calling it home.
